With 2022 coming to a bittersweet end, the new year brings a plethora of new highly anticipated games that have been in development for years. Games like Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have been hyped for years and have had the release date postponed countless times. This game has been a work in progress for six years, like many of the other games that have been getting spurts of hype when new bits of information are released. Fans are vultures starving for more information, which makes them burst with life and spread updates about games spread like the plague. Here are a few of the upcoming releases that have taken the masses by storm.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Cosmic Shake

Released on January 31, 2023, Cosmic Shake shook the world. Even though it lacked the publicity that other games are still receiving more of than this game. Cosmic Shake overcame this setback by receiving a  9/10 on Steam.

Hogwarts Legacy 

A game that is supposed to bring the world of Harry Potter to life and allow for a personal experience in the school of Hogwarts,  Hogwarts Legacy has been hyped by die-hard fans. Set to release on February 10, 2023, this game allows players to customize their character and experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. This game has been appearing on numerous types of social media discussing how you will be able to cast any spells whenever and speculation of the plot line this game will follow.

Resident Evil 4 (Remake)

This game is one of the most anticipated and controversial this year; fans adored the original Resident Evil 4, which means that every piece of information released about this game will be scrutinized and judged. This is one of the most popular games of its franchise which has led the fans to outwardly state that if the game receives the same treatment as the Resident Evil 3 remake, they will be disappointed. This was the longest game in the franchise at the time of its release with a total of 15 and half hours of playtime and 31 hours for a completionist run. It has a mean review of 9/10 stars overall and it has stayed this way for 18 years. This game is set to release on March 24, 2023.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

With an impressive development time of six years, Tears of the Kingdom has left Zelda fans on the edge of their seats since the release of Breath of the Wild (BotW), which Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) is the direct sequel of. This is quite rare for this game series not only because it’s a sequel, but also because it has the same world and characters in it. This game is held up to extremely high standards, though, as BotW has a mean review of 9.9/10. And finally, after many setbacks, this game is set to release on May 12, 2023.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

On May 26, 2023 the first Suicide Squad game is set to release. This is a monumental moment for DC as they are becoming stronger competitors to Marvel as the years go on. This game is exciting for DC fans as it adds characters that have rarely been included as playable in other DC video games. It also takes on an intense and loved plot line where the  Justice League gets corrupted and needs to be stopped. This game is expected to draw in and create new fans for DC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

After the releases of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man was demanded by the fans. This game is supposed to include Venom as the main antagonist, who is speculated to be Harry Osborn in this series like multiple other ones. It is also the belief of many fans that the Green Goblin will be included as a major villain in this game. While the release date is not clear, it is set to be in the fall of 2023.

These are just some of the main games that are planned to be released this year and it hardly covers the majority of 2023. These games have been in production for years and have been what the fans have wanted, making this year all the more exciting for gaming.
