2023 has a lot to look forward to, and movies are no exception. Here are the top five movies to look forward to in the New Year.

Killers of the Flower Moon:

Killers of the Flower Moon is directed by legendary director Martin Scorsese. Scorsese has directed legendary movies like Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Wolf of Wallstreet, and Shutter Island.  The movies lead actor is Leonardo DiCaprio, who has starred in a number of Scorsese films. The film is based off the book, Killers of the Flower Moon; The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. Which tells the story of the brutal murders behind white settlers’ attempted dispossession of an Osage family’s Oklahoma lands. The film set to come out on July 26, 2023.

Asteroid City:

Asteroid City is another Wes Anderson film with an absolutely loaded cast. Stars such as Sophia Lillis, Maya Hawke, Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Jeff Goldblum, Margot Robbie and many more will headline the unique film. Asteroid City is about a “World-changing events spectacularly disrupt the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention.” Anderson has directed films such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Rushmore. The film is set to debut on June 16 of this year.

Oppenheimer:

Oppenheimer is directed by Christopher Nolan, and Cillian Murphy plays legendary scientist, Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer is about making the first nuclear bomb. Other stars include Robert Downey, Jr. Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Jack Quaid. Nolan has directed great films such as the Dark Knight trilogy, as well as Inception. Oppenheimer comes out on July 21st, 2023.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie:

The popular video game franchise, Super Mario Bros., has finally decided to take its story to the big screen. The voiceover cast is loaded with big names such as Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Seth Rogen. Nintendo has collaborated with Illumination and Universal to produce this animated film. The movie is going to showcase a multitude of beloved characters from the video game series such as Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and more. Nintendo also intends on making spin-off films in the future. The trailer raised my expectations for the movie. The animation was vibrant and very well done. I expect the story to be exciting for the viewer as they will get to experience the Super Mario Bros. world.

Creed III:

Creed III will be the ninth installment of the Rocky franchise and the third installment of the Creed series. The movie was directed by and stars Michael B. Jordan, who will be alongside Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu, and Phylicia Rashad. Post Creed II, things are going very well for Adonis Creed. He is having a lot of success with his career and he and his family is very happy. Creed reconnects with an old friend, Damer, who has just finished up a long prison sentence. Dame’s pent up aggression and eagerness to get back in the ring draws up a lot of conflict. Eventually Creed realizes that there is nothing more he can do other than to put his career on the line and fight the man with nothing to lose.
